Salesforce Announces New GC and More In-house Moves

Salesforce promotes Todd Machtmes to GC

Salesforce has promoted Todd Machtmes, executive vice president of commercial legal, to general counsel. Machtmes has spent nearly 16 years at the cloud-based software company, which he joined in 2005 after spending five years in-house at Adobe Systems Inc. He has held several other positions at Salesforce, including associate general counsel and senior corporate counsel. Machtmes began his legal career as an associate at California-based law firms Miller Starr Regalia and Ropers, Majeski, Kohn & Bentley. He will assume his new position on Feb. 1.

Oklahoma Insurance Department names Kim Bailey as new GC

Oklahoma’s Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready names Kim Bailey as general counsel. Bailey is the current general counsel and chief operating officer at the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH). Mulready said, “Kim has been a leader on Oklahoma’s COVID-19 response while working at OSDH and was instrumental in the development and success of the Worker’s Comp Commission while serving as their General Counsel and Executive Director. Her experience across state government, dedication to the law, and passion for Oklahoma make her a great asset to our team.” She begins her new role on Jan. 19.

Intercept announces Jared Freedberg as GC and secretary

Intercept Pharmaceuticals appoints Jared Freedberg as its new general counsel and secretary. Freedberg previously worked for Immunomedics, which was acquired by Gilead Sciences in October. He has also worked for Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals and Covance. Jerry Durso, Intercept's president and CEO, welcomed Freedberg to the company and predicted his "substantial legal and business development expertise will be invaluable."

FirstEnergy Corp. hires new CLO Hyun Park

Hyun Park assumes his new role of chief legal officer and senior vice president at FirstEnergy Corp. on Jan. 11. He will lead FirstEnergy's legal, risk, and internal audit and oversee the company's ethics and compliance program. Park has experience as general counsel of two publicly held utility companies, including PG&E Corp., and an independent power producer. He most recently was a partner and general counsel at LimNexus LLP, an international law firm.

Champignon Brands announces Peter Rizakos as GC

Champignon Brands Inc. Chairman and CEO Roger McIntyre announced the company's appointment of Peter Rizakos as the firm's new General Counsel. Most recently, Rizakos was president and CEO of a private mining company and General Counsel for Marret Asset Management Inc., a Canadian asset manager. He was also top legal officer for one of Canada's leading investment fund companies. Rizakos brings 30 years of experience as a corporate and securities lawyer and as an executive in a variety of roles in both established and early-stage businesses.

DMS hires Tony Saldana as new GC

DMS taps Tony Saldana as its new general counsel and executive vice president of compliance. Saldana will lead the company's global legal and compliance teams, reporting to DMS CEO Joe Marinucci, Saldana most recently worked at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and has experience in areas ranging from mergers and acquisitions to corporate finance, corporate governance, and general counsel and securities matters.

DermTech appoints Ray Akhavan as GC

DermTech announced the appointment of Ray Akhavan as general counsel. Akhavan will be responsible for all legal, intellectual property, and compliance matters, and will serve on the executive leadership team. He was most recently the associate general counsel and chief intellectual property counsel at Ancestry.
